Description
Giovanna loves her job as the first female Customs officer on the Sydney docks in 1979. She thinks she has a fighting chance of fitting into a workplace full of wolf-whistling wharfies, but her prospects for promotion are as restrictive as her impossibly tight uniform skirt. The male officers want her gone, back to the typing pool where she belongs, and her extended family agrees, they want her out of law enforcement too, and for the same reasons. Giovanna isn’t corrupt. When she opens a container and finds the body of a dead child, her honesty threatens her career, her community, and her life. A Cloud of Frozen Air is a combination of sharp-edged wit, chilling prose, and terminal family secrets.
